Recently, batches of Milky Way 12m octagonal tapered distribution steel poles have been delivered to Ethiopia for the ADELE (Access to Distributed Electricity and Lighting in Ethiopia) rural power expansion project, implemented from 2021 to 2025. Led by Ethiopia Ministry of Water and Energy and Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) with World Bank financing, the project covers Oromia, Somali and other regions, constructing and rehabilitating 938 km of medium-voltage distribution lines to expand electricity access for towns and remote villages.
    The locally widely adopted 12m hot-dip galvanized polygonal steel pole for Ethiopia distribution network matches Milky Way 12m poles perfectly. Manufactured from Q355 steel with hot-dip galvanization coating ≥86μm, the poles are engineered under IEC standard to withstand high UV radiation, large diurnal temperature difference and sand erosion on Ethiopian highland, suitable for local 33kV medium voltage distribution load requirements. All poles pass factory non-destructive inspection and bending load test, packed with IPPC fumigated wooden skids. Cargo will be shipped to Djibouti Port then transported overland inland to project sites in Ethiopia.
    These Milky Way 12m power steel poles will replace ageing concrete poles, strengthen grid reliability, expand rural electrification and cut the rate of population without electricity in remote Ethiopia.
